My baby was born prematurely, when should I start weaning?
Babies who were born prematurely should, in general, follow the same guidance around signs of readiness, and start weaning at around 6 months corrected age. If you have any concerns always consult your doctor of health visitor.
If I’m offering pureed foods should I spoon feed or let my baby use a spoon themselves?
To start with you will likely need to feed your baby with a spoon, but as they are able to hold and guide the spoon to their own mouth you can let them practice feeding themselves. You can load the spoon for them and then let them hold it and guide it into their mouth.
You may want to have a couple of spoons ready in case they want to hold onto their spoon after eating from it and then you are ready with another!
